Wish I was ocean size

Jesse Narens (Mr. Ghost&Flower himself, as well as the creator of the truly lovely Stegoforest resin toy) took an Eye Scream Garamon to the Oregon coast, and brought back this great pic.

The Proprietor would like to acknowledge the lack of new content here, of late; we have added a new full-time employee at Garamania World Headquarters, and her orientation is taking up most of our time (she is only four days old).

Thank you for your patience.
More to come soon.

Beautiful custom work on an Eye Scream 12" Garamon

The pics (from this fantastic modeling blog) speak for themselves:

A couple of subtle, well-executed modifications and a velvety new paint-up... very well worth the work!
Love it!

Round-up: interesting Gara-auction pics

Nice snap of the tall Marmit trio...

Aaaawww... lil' melty-sculpt silver n' red Gary...

Uh... don't look now...

And finally... this mindblaster:

16 kg of pure Gara-awesomeness!!
Super-fantastic; at 53cm high and 32cm wide, it's just about as big as the giant Eye Scream Garamon. Love the way the eyes were handled. Garamania bows deeply toward the creator of this piece; it's a beauty.

Ultra Qewl

I'm really excited to share these pics; I had stumbled across this page a long while back, and then completely lost track of it, much to my chagrin. Found it again last week! This person's heavy-hitter line-up of original sculpts of Ultra Q beasties is superb:

The Garamon is terrific and, quite interestingly, resembles nothing so much as a slightly softened version of Eye Scream's 12" toy (to be honest, I prefer this to that toy; this sculpt has a bit more heart... well, the great paint-up helps, too).

Could this page belong to Ken Yokota, and perhaps this sculpt was a less refined take that he later developed into the ES release? I'm almost inclined to think so. The post is dated 12/24/06, so the timing would be right... if I recall correctly, I think the 12"-ers hit in late '07. Also, poke through the other posts- this person sculpts a lot (all of it phenomenal), and much of it ends up in resin... I know that Yokota sculpted gk's for Vice before hooking up with Eye Scream...

Tranlslation tools are not helping at all; if anybody has info, please chime in!

The Nerdstrom Collection, Pt. 11

Out-of-doors with green Eye Scream Garamon...

"You know, sometimes, when I'm feeling a little glum, a simple stroll 'round the yard is all it takes to perk me up..."

"You gotta stop and smell the flowers..."

"Well... these have no scent... but y'know what I mean."

"Huh... that's rather... spiny..."

"Ucch...yeeh pehuls ah dehini'ly nah e'ible..."

"... aaan... the schemsh ahnt muh beh'uh."

"Hey......... Hey.... HEY."

"What?"
"Oh, I was just... wonderin'... if you were asleep..."

Yokota rocks

Going through the files, I just came across this pic of the sculpt for the 55cm Eye Scream Garamon (grabbed many moons ago from Temma Sakamoto).

I know I've said it before, but clay-pusher extraordinaire Ken Yokota really outdid himself on this one. I have wanted to interview Yokota for some time, but several leads I followed dead-ended; if anyone out there can help me in this, please give a shout...thanks!

Gara-project: Green ES Garamon work completed

Here he is, kids, at last!
Dr. Allred didn’t end up taking a “before” pic this time (you can click on the pic in my last post for a gander at the pre-paint up head), but he did snap these two eerie “Eyeless (but repainted) in Arizona” shots:

And…heeeeeere’s Gary!

If I wore a hat, it would be off to John yet again. He did another super-fine job with everything, especially in producing natural, well-highlighted monster-green skintones.
He ships back to VT on Tuesday…I’m psyched!

Now all that remains is the struggle to get his head back on once he’s here…urgh…

Been a slow week here on Garamania, but don’t worry…I’ve got plenty o’ posts in the hopper! A flurry of Garactivity to come! Stay tuned!

Shots of the completed work to come soon...

Kaijyu Toys Labo

In mid-spring, 2004, I caught the first cryptic whisperings* of a Garamon sculpt that was unprecedented in its physical enormity and painstaking attention to detail. Apparently, a tiny work-in-progress shot had been published in Hyper Hobby, with little info attached. No one seemed to know which company was behind it, but the rumblings held that it would soon see production.

Needless to say, I was a tad excited…

Months passed without a scrap of news...a year came and went, then another. I had begun to think that this supposed mind-blower would never see production, that the project must’ve dead-ended…or was perhaps a cruel hoax all along, a red herring dragged across the trail, to the great frustration of Gara-toy hunters everywhere…

A muggy June afternoon in ’06 found me conducting one of my regular Garamon Google-siftings; it was during that session, to my astonished delight, that I came across this pic:

…on a blog maintained by one Temma Sakamoto. I dove right in, and found that Sakamoto san had been keeping up-to-the-minute tabs on the development of this toy. The blog had shot after eye-popping shot of the sculpt in various stages- even a couple jaw-droppers of a fully-painted proto!
YESSSS!
At long last!

Such was my very memorable intro to the great Kaijyu Toys Labo, a site I have checked on a weekly basis since. Sakamoto seems to share a terrific enthusiasm for all things Garamon and Pygmon, and can always be counted on to highlight upcoming releases as well as share pics of his latest collection scores. He’s also a wonderful artist- check out this page, chock full of cool and comical kaiju portraits, including these three of ol’ Gary:

*By cryptic whisperings I mean, of course, an email from the estimable Mike Johnson.
