Your Free Door Prize: PYGMON GROWTH CHART

Hello friends.
It’s been a very long time. It’s good to see you. I hope you’re holding up well in this world-wide wildness.

I come to you bearing a gift: a Pygmon metric growth chart. This beautiful bit of ephemera was included as a fold-out insert in a Japanese children’s magazine in the early 70s. (The artist behind the wonderful painted image is, sadly, unknown to me.) Several years ago, after some long searching, I obtained a copy in good condition, and engaged the services of a professional archivist to make a top-quality scan of the image at full size.

At last, I offer this chart as a (huge) .psd file for your downloading pleasure here.

My sincere wish is that many of you will download it and have it printed to scale on some sturdy paper or cardstock, to actually be used for its intended purpose by your own family, or a family you know and love and would like to gift it to. (Or several families! Makes a great baby shower gift!) In this way, we will carry the magic of Garamon, Pygmon, and Ultra-kaiju in general, into the future.

IMAGINATION! CREATION! GROWTH! MONSTERS! FOR THE CHILDREN!

Peace!!

Hartter Garamon

Sean Hartter's burly, simian take on Gary; be sure to check out his reimagined cereal boxes and movie posters, too.

GARAFINK!!!

What you're hearing is the sound of my head exploding, 'cause this is
TOO!
FREAKING!

COOL!

I have next to no details on this, other than that it's a garage kit that was released at Wonderfestival Summer '09 this past weekend.

PK shoots AoD

The work of the great PaulKaiju has been featured on Garamania many times before (here, here and here, for example). I'm a huge fan of the guy's work- I have commissioned several pieces from him over the last few years, and they're always amazing. I think highly of him not just as an innovative painter/customizer, but as a synthesist of the old and new toy culture. He really gets it, and you can tell he has a great appreciation of his role in all of it.

When I finished the Ash of Death custom, it hit me like a bolt outta the blue: "I gotta send this to Paul!" Seemed so right- I know he has a love of the character, and I was also psyched to send him a custom piece of my own which I felt so satisfied with.

I was delighted to check in on Paul's Flickr last week to find these super-sweet snaps of AoD!

Cheers, Paul!

Busted

"Look, officer..."

"Sir, again, I am not willing to discuss it with you any further at this time. This is NOT a nude beach. End of story. Now, please keep moving."

A little bit Antiques Roadshow, a little bit Win, Lose or Draw

Check out this interesting segment from a game show, featuring a Bullmark Gary (great little clip of super-excited Pygmon from "The Little Hero" up front):

I really must, must move "Learn Japanese" way up on my (quite epic) to-do list...

Round-up: interesting Gara-auction pics

Nice snap of the tall Marmit trio...

Aaaawww... lil' melty-sculpt silver n' red Gary...

Uh... don't look now...

And finally... this mindblaster:

16 kg of pure Gara-awesomeness!!
Super-fantastic; at 53cm high and 32cm wide, it's just about as big as the giant Eye Scream Garamon. Love the way the eyes were handled. Garamania bows deeply toward the creator of this piece; it's a beauty.

Deep-pocketed Garadherents might wish to click here.

Happy 43rd, ガラモン!

Nordbot, you lovable rascal!

Yes, it's here... we've all been waiting with bated breath emanating from foamy, fish-lipped mouths... 43rd anniversary of the broadcast of Gary's first appearance on Ultra Q episode 13, "Garadama"!

So- how did The Proprietor choose to, ah, mark the occasion?

Well... there was a visit to a local flesh-inkery...

Lila gets The Proprietor all unguented up... and the scratchin' begins...

He was a little bored...

Check back for fully-healed revelatory pics on the other big Gara-anniversary, 4/17... bonus points to the geeks who can guess just what I got (I suppose it ain't all that hard... )

Now go watch some Garamon!

Cheers,
Michael
