Gary & Semi-Ningen ParaBabies by the DaiOni

Wonderful shots of these little Marmit fireplugs by the TheDaiOni:

Once again, friends & fiends, it's been too long; there are some truly incredible Gara-things to post about, and I plan on playing catch-up this week... please stay tuned!

What's new?

Well, Marmit released a new version of their giant Garamon at SuperFestival 55 yesterday:

This custom Garamon, by Monster Kolor user Jack Fields, is clowntacularly demented:

Lastly, I, The Proprietor, have a new custom underway- a Bandai Ultraman Max Pygmon I've been dying to work on for some time:

Glastic eyes!
Green interference paint providing a jewel-like sheen that my camera can't adequately capture!
Neodymium magnets embedded in his feet for fridge-stickability!
Stay tuned for finished pics!

Seablob… the larval stage of Garamon?

Marmit’s (relatively) new Seablob (シーブロブ) toy (an original design, not based on any existent TV or movie kaiju) provides great grist for the mill of this reporter’s Gara-imagination.

It would seem obvious that the sculptor behind this piece was Garamonically inspired.  Look at those spines, that mouth, even the eyes; that it’s called Seablob prompts me to once again call attention to Tohl Narita’s marine inspiration for the original Garamon design.

It’s always fun to speculate on the biomechanical nature of Garamon, and what role the Chirusonians played in the creation and control of the beast.  I like to think that each Garamon is lab-grown (perhaps using DNA material harvested from a species discovered on another planet), with an artificially sped-up life cycle; the mechanical components would be implanted at specific, appropriate stages.*

Seablob looks like a larval-stage Garamon; picture it about 4’ high and 5’ across, sliding around slug-like in the viscous goo of a giant petri dish-type container... a bunch of Semi-Ningen Gara-engineers clustered around it, comparing notes, conferring on the creature’s vitals.

I really dig this piece and think it would make an intriguing addition to any Gara-collection.

*We could even take it a bit further and imagine that the machine implants are actually quasi-biologically transformative, able to be inserted at any stage and “grow” inside the organism as it reaches full maturity.

GiD Gara-customs by Sanjeev

I don't know why the fong it's taken me 'til now to do a post on these, but anyway... man-about-CollectionDX and super-nice chap Sanjeev has done some fantastic, blacklight-reactive custom work on three different GiD Garamon toys. His very tasteful touch has been given to (l to r, below) a Popy/B-Club Bullmark reissue, M1-Go's towering "dolly eyes" beast, and the very fun Marmit bank.

Dig Sanjeev's great articles on these pieces (with superb glow pics) here and here.

New Marmit Gary is here... and it's...

...sorta meh, frankly.

Marmit's done Garamon many times before (and with great style), but this is their most realistic, suit-faithful take thus far, and as such it's sort of underwhelming. I would have expected them to do something with a bit more sculptural pizzazz, to add to the Gara-toy canon.
Oh well.

(Sorry for no Japanese tags on this post; my Japanese character display is still all facacta from re-formatting this machine... will fix soon.)

In zee dark

I did a little pre-vacay cleaning and re-arrangement of the entire crew the other day. Migrated a whole bunch o' the boys from the shelves back into the Gara-Case (a highly-modded Detolf); it's a nice little mob scene in there, once again. I also picked up a great, powerful hand-held blacklight at Spencer's recently for $10...decided to take some psychedelightful snaps for you...enjoy:

Gara-custom eye candy for a(nother) rainy Wednesday

The Bert Gatchalian touch on a red blank Bullmark repro:

This is the preview shot Bert sent to me; this guy is currently winging his way east, and more shots of him will be featured in a future Nerdstrom Collection post.

I stumbled across these pics this morn- custom work by yours truly on a Marmit Para-Baby Garamon:

I did this one a few years ago; as far as I know, it still resides in the collection of Carl Kent-Smith.

Raced Garamon in the park...

PK treatment on a Marmit Semi-Ningen coin bank and a Toygraph Racer Gary.

When Sister Sara first saw the Racer, she said, "I don't know...a car that fits tightly around the lower half of one's body...it just doesn't seem safe."
